Skip to main contentBiographyWilliam “Will” Wilson graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Art History in 1993, and the University of New Mexico with a Master of Fine Arts in Photography in 2002. Wilson taught at the Institute of American Indian Arts in 1999 to 2000, Oberlin College from 2000 to 2001, and the University of Arizona from 2006 to 2008. In 2010, he was awarded the Joan Mitchell Foundation grant, and in 2013, he was the Rollin and Mary Ella King Native Artist Fellow at the School of Advanced Research. He created the Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange in 2012, a photographic project that invites Native artists and professionals to participate in creating or posing in photo essays for Natives by Natives. Wilson’s photography endeavors to represent Native Americans in a true light by removing the colonial spotlight or filter projected and cast by earlier historical photographers.
