Yanktonai Sioux, born 1944
BiographyEarl Eder was born in Poplar, Montana, and was one of the 150 students selected for the Institute of American Indian Arts’ inaugural class of 1962. While a student, he was in a band with T.C. Cannon, Kevin Red Star, and Alfred Young Man (Cree artist, writer and educator). Upon graduation, Eder was given a scholarship to the San Francisco Institute of Art where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1970. A sculptor and painter, he is considered an instrumental artist in the 1960s Santa Fe contemporary Indian art movement.
